There are many clients who prefer the convenience of online sessions, as you are able to consult with a therapist from anywhere in the country as long as you have a stable internet connection.
There are many reasons why adults seek out therapy. Some may be struggling with their current circumstances and relationships. Others may be in crisis and experiencing anxiety, stress or depression that may be impacting their functioning. There are others who may initiate therapy in order to reflect and gain an awareness into themselves and their feelings so that they can make different choices in their lives.
In individual therapy, I work closely with clients to explore and understand their frame of reference. I do this by inviting you to share aspects of your past and present circumstances, as well as what brought you to therapy. We will make reference to the past, in understanding the link between past events and the present. This won’t always be easy, however through the safety of the therapeutic relationship you will become aware of your patterns and gain insight, which can be very empowering.
Specific issues that we could address in therapy include:
Couple’s therapy sessions can help with:
To be in a committed and fulfilling relationship is considered one of the many worthwhile experiences in life. But let’s face it, it is hard work! Each person enters into the relationship with their own experiences, dreams, wishes, past hurts and disappointments. There is no “right or wrong” time to go for therapy as a couple and we need not only go to therapy when there are problems in the relationship. Therapy can be invaluable for any couple (at any stage in their relationship) who wish to understand each other better, communicate more effectively and deepen the connection in the relationship.
During my couples therapy sessions I work at creating an environment where people can gain insight into themselves as individuals and as a couple, understand each other, and address deeper problems within the relationship.
Couple’s therapy sessions can help with:
The adolescent years are often described as being the “stormy phase” and this rings very true. There are many challenges that today’s teens are faced with. Peer pressure, finding their identity, trying to fit in, decisions regarding their future careers, transitioning from childhood into adulthood, and romantic relationships, just to name a few.
My work with teenagers is focused on helping them to adjust to the many changes they are facing in a warm and empathic environment. A large part of my work with teens involves parental counselling where I work with parents in educating and assisting them in understanding their teens.
When working with adolescents, we can address:
There’s no doubt that being a parent is an amazing journey fraught with many highs and lows. The experience can feel gratifying on the one hand and emotionally exhausting on the other. The thing about parenting is that it can often be clouded by our own early experiences and we may sometimes be triggered by our children and react based on “old hurts” rather than the present moment.
My work with parents involves providing a space that is non-blaming and non-judgemental where we can explore how better to approach your child. This will involve getting a better understanding of how you were parented and how this often gets in the way of your own parenting of your child. The aim, ultimately is for you to walk away from the sessions feeling supported, guided, informed and better equipped to enhance your relationship with your child.
The covid-19 pandemic has fast tracked the use of online therapy and this service is available should you choose to rather do online therapy instead of in-person. Online therapy is just like in-person therapy except, instead of meeting together in a room, we meet online from the comfort of your home or office. There are many clients who prefer the convenience of online sessions, as you are able to consult with a therapist from anywhere in the country as long as you have a stable internet connection. We normally make use of Zoom for online sessions. The sessions run for the same time as in-person sessions and are billed at the same rate.
